Want to see China at war from different angles? Or want to take a look at strange creatures from the Guideways through mountains and seas? These and more family-friendly art offerings are on display in Beijing’s creative spaces this month.

Na Xiaoxian’s Solo Exhibition, until Dec 29

Centering on the theme of “Rediscover childhood dreams”, the exhibition reinterprets familiar paintings from the history of art as cute kid’s images. Na Xiaoxian is an artist of the post-90s generation, and through her creations and passion for classic art, you will see some famous artworks from a different perspective, such as Girl with a Pearl Earring, Loving Vincent, and The Crucifixion. In addition, there is a space especially for children who love art.

Where are the Fantastic Beasts? Until Feb 14

The theme of the exhibition comes from The Classic of Mountains and Seas (A Chinese Bestiary, 山海经), an ancient Chinese book of strange creatures. The exhibition features more than 20 ink paintings on rice paper created by Wu Junyong from 2016 to 2019, and a newly created six-screen animation installation.

Dimensions of Family, until Feb 23, 2020

In this exhibition, the works of ten local modern artists are divided into three parts: the Temporal Family, the Temporal Spatial Family, and the Warmth of Family. The exhibition will reconstruct the value system of family in the contemporary society with a revolutionized understanding through painting, photography, installation, sound, image, and multimedia, to interpret the concept of “home” from multiple perspectives.

Walter Bosshard / Robert Capa–The Race for China, until May 3, 2020

The exhibition presents the work of two outstanding photojournalists who reported about China at war from different angles. Walter Bosshard and Robert Capa both came to China in 1930s. They were friends, but also rivals regarding publication in Life magazine. They covered similar stories and found themselves observing the same scenes of war. This gives us the unique chance to present a multi-layered narrative – about the history of China seen through Western eyes, about the question of truth in photojournalism, and about the power of photography in wartime.

Van Gogh Art Exhibition, recurring

Covering an area of 1300 square meters, Van Gogh Art Exhibition features more than 50 large theme scenes, such as Starry Nights, Light Maze, and Diamond Eyes. Through spatial visual technology, light and shadow special effects, and 3D technology, the famous paintings are presented in different scenes where you and your little ones can enjoy taking as many pictures as you want.
